My art process

Inspired by the Northern Ireland landscape

Sea coast landscape sketches

I come to live in Northern Irland almost 7 years ago and the culture and unique landscape shaped my art. I have been always been deeply focused on the natural environment and enjoy long walks. During that walks, I made many sketches of the surrounding, rocks and sea coastlines surrounding green hills. These sketches are giving real canvas mixing the play of the light and dark basalt rocks of Antrim Coast. The unique rock forms were born from a volcanic eruption over 60 million years ago and remain in the giant ancient mountain chain even bigger than the high Himalayan Mountains are today.

Sea coast landscape canvas painting

Inspired by the rocky Northern Ireland landscape I created sires of watercolor and ink sketches of Antrim Cost and I am using them as a reference when working on a canvas at my studio. The colors and texture of the Irish landscape inspire me to use a pallet knife which gives a rugged effect.

With my Northern Ireland seascape paintings, I am on a mission to push the idea of having a dark moody sky with an element of light. I believe that leaves the viewer to ponder the idea of infinite possibility. My painting is all about depicting a mood with a loose approach to knife and brushwork often using strong contrasting tones in places to create depth.
